Wood Lighting Design offers unique timeless designs handmade in BRISTOL, UK

Dedicated to the highest standards of quality that comes directly from our shared sense of pride, each lamp is an artistic statement incorporating natural materials as a three-dimensional sculpture. The designs utilize bent wood in dynamic tension giving a sense of aliveness to each piece. The light they bring gives an atmosphere of warmth and nature as it shines directly through the translucent wood veneer. The grain of the wood veneer varies uniquely, as in nature, giving a one-of-a-kind quality. The luminosity of the frosted acrylic spreads the light beautifully while the contrasting materials artfully complement each other.

Designed with production efficiency in mind, the lighting is made by hand in small quantities in our shop. The people working on each piece understand the value of small-scale production, knowing that quality workmanship is essential in each of our lights. The aim is to make these products as simple as possible, living up to the mantra “less is more.” Wood Lighting Design values the preservation of fine woodworking skills and quality artistry while considering the environment in all methods of craftsmanship and materials.

Meet the owners

Matt and Julia Wagoner who are the crafters, designers, and force behind Wood Lighting Design. Mentored by Julia’s father Harry Weitzer, who was a pioneer of mid-century design, with a storehouse of woodworking knowledge, started them off in this successful venture. Harry enthusiastically motivated them to achieve new heights in the creation of wood veneer lighting. Julia & Matt are proud to continue the family legacy and use that spark to bring their designs to the world. At a time when people truly value products made in the USA Matt and Julia are proud to provide made in America, ecological, and hand-crafted lighting.

Julia Weitzer

US Sales & Production

Julia Weitzer is part of the third generation to join Wood Lighting Design and continue on the woodworking legacy begun by her grandfather and envisioned by her aunt Julia Wagoner. Her childhood is full of fond memories of working on carpentry projects in her father’s workshop, learning from him how to use both simple and complex woodworking machinery and tools such as chisels, hand planers and the lathe. She still remembers her first attempts in her teenage years at woodworking production, creating pieces that stood the test of time and are still in use around her parents’ kitchen. She returned to her woodworking roots after graduating in Sociology and developing her career in Europe and it is with great pride that she has taken up the artisan family tradition that runs strong through the Weitzer family.
